Position Overview
This is a temporary, full-time (40 hours/week) position to assist with administrative tasks in the Gender and Sexuality Center (GSC) during the search process for a permanent, full-time GSC Assistant Director. The hourly wage for this position is $21.00.

Department Overview
The GSC creates a dynamic campus community that supports and celebrates sexual and gender diversity. To accomplish this, the GSC hosts events, programs, and workshops and offers resources and support on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-binary, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and other marginalized identities (LGBTQIA+). The GSC works with other campus organizations and offices to strengthen and sustain an inclusive campus community that promotes gender equality and awareness and welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and gender expressions.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities

Office Management

  • Keep inventory of and order office and programming supplies as needed
  • Maintain GSC library, including adding new books, checking books in and out, removing lost books from database, and following up with overdue books
  • Track and submit student worker rosters and timesheets
  • Handle budget transfers, payment requests, contracts, catering orders, Carleton fleet vehicle reservations, and other fiscal matters related to GSC program implementation

Website Management

  • Update content and features of GSC web pages as needed
  • Add events to Carleton central events calendar and GSC website as needed
  • During Winter Term, update webpages with information about applying for employment at the GSC or applying to live in GSC-affiliated housing
  • At least once per term, update the GSC web page that lists student organization descriptions, contact information, and meeting times
  • Add events/recurring meetings to internal GSC Google calendar

Program Management

  • Assist with logistical details for GSC programs, including Rainbow Reception, LGBT History Month, Rainbow Retreat, Exhale, Trans Empowerment Week, and other programs
  • Work with Academic Technology and PEPS to reserve technology needed for programs and trainings
  • Reserve rooms and tables for programs and outreach as needed
  • Manage publicity for programs, including printing flyers; submitting events to Carleton Weekly, and digital signage.
  • Print supplies needed for programs (in office or through Print Services)

Supervision Received and Exercised:
The position will be supervised by and work closely with the Director of the Gender and Sexuality Center. The position will provide some oversight to 10 part-time student staff, although primary supervision of student staff will be provided by the Director of the GSC.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enthusiasm for working in an environment focused on gender and sexuality identity development and LGBTQIA+ student support
  • Experience with day-to-day office management tasks
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic website management skills

Preferred Qualifications
Current experience with Google Suite and Dropbox.
