Position Overview:

perform a variety of cleaning and disinfecting within their assigned buildings/areas to maintain a clean, safe work environment for the campus community. This is a full-time union staff position.

Starting Hourly Wage: $17.74. This is a full-time union staff position. This position is based on a salary step progression. To be eligible to reach a 100% of the pay scale the employee must meet performance expectations.

Work Schedule:

2:00 pm -10:30 pm Mondays through Fridays
4:00 pm-12:30 am Tuesdays through Saturdays
5:00 am-1:30 pm Mondays through Fridays

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities: 

• Perform daily cleaning duties in an indoor environment. These activities may include sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash containers, washing windows, cleaning, and stocking rooms.
• Clean writing boards, service lavatories, locker rooms, shower rooms, lounges, and kitchenettes.
• Perform daily general cleaning duties in an outdoor environment. These activities may include snow removal, weeding, removal of litter.
• Traveling to different facilities within the campus to perform cleaning duties.
• Perform overhead dusting and light fixture cleaning and replace light bulbs if needed.
• Strip and wax floors and clean carpeting.
• Orders supplies and maintains a well-stocked, organized closet.
• Lock and unlock interior and exterior doors as directed.
• Maintain inventory and supply orders.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness, proper storage, and use of equipment, vehicles, and personal safety equipment.
• Maintain and/or renew hard floor surfaces.
• Perform laundry-related duties as directed: Distribution and collection of linens, rollaway beds, and bed-making duties, when necessary.
• Assist with student storage and sweeping/shoveling snow from all steps, walks, porches and terraces as directed, servicing smoking urns and policing grounds.
• Move supplies, equipment, and furniture as directed and set room according to the custodial worksheet and or customer specifications.
• Perform pest control duties.
• Ability and willingness to cover other absent custodial personnel's job responsibilities.
• Guide and assist in training student employees.
• Other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Work Environment:

• Position may require working in outdoor weather conditions. The position is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and chemicals.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, comprehend, follow, receive and provide written instructions.
• Ability to work all shifts: work on-call hours for weather-related duties (snow removal).
• Must have the ability to work overtime to meet the needs of the campus and for special events.
• Basic knowledge of chemicals, proper labeling, and environmental health and physical concerns.
• Ability to work with cleaning compounds/solvents.
• Demonstrate general computer knowledge (Google email/Google calendar).
• Customer-focused: Ability to interact with campus visitors, contractors, and constituents in a helpful and friendly manner and the ability to work well with a diverse community.
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to maintain the required level of cleanliness by departmental and building standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous or current experience working in a similar environment.

Physical Requirements:

Must pass a pre-employment physical (Including but not limited to: the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, balance, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, and the ability to push/ pull, lift/carry up to 55 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently).

Other Additional Requirements:

• Must pass a background check.
• This position requires driving campus vehicles, you must have an acceptable driver's license and be deemed insurable by the college.
