The Department of German and Russian at Carleton College invites applications for a non-tenure-track continuing lectureship in Russian commencing September 1, 2022. This is a full-time appointment with an initial two-year term and the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year term as a lecturer, typically followed by six-year renewable appointments and possible promotion to senior lecturer, contingent on successful reviews. Minimum qualifications: MA required, PhD preferred; native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English; commitment to undergraduate education; demonstrated excellence in language teaching across all university levels; ability to teach literature, film and/or culture courses in both Russian and English; willingness to direct an established biannual overseas program in the Russian Federation (based at Moscow State University). The Department of German and Russian is passionate about teaching, study abroad, and engages in research. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a willingness to participate actively in the life of the department and to contribute to extra-curricular and service activities. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body. Teaching load is five courses over three 10-week terms and coordination of the language program; directing the Moscow and Beyond program comprises a two-course equivalent biannually.
