Department: Physics and Astronomy
Position Type: Faculty - Non-Tenure Track
Categories: Faculty - Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Carleton College is seeking applications for 2 or 3 one-year appointments at the Assistant Professor level for the 2022-2023 academic year. We seek individuals who have recently completed their PhD (or are nearing the completion of their PhD) in physics, astronomy, or related fields with a strong commitment to teach in a liberal-arts environment. Each position will involve teaching 5-6 courses over three 10-week terms, including a combination of courses across our curriculum such as courses in the introductory physics sequence, intermediate lab courses (e.g., Atomic & Nuclear physics and Electricity & Magnetism) and upper-level labs and electives. There may be opportunities for involvement of undergraduate students in research, but it is not required for these positions. Though applicants of any specialty are welcome, we are looking to hire at least one experimentalist to cover intermediate and advanced lab courses. Additionally, the department anticipates filling a tenure-track astrophysicist position in the next few years and encourages visiting applicants that may be interested in that position as well.
