Carleton College, Department of Religions seeks qualified candidates to fill a one-year visiting position in Asian Religions to begin on Sept. 1, 2022. A preference will be given to candidates in the field of East Asian Religions, but we are open to those whose research focuses on South Asian, Southeast Asian, Central Asian, Asian American, or transnational religions, as long as they demonstrate teaching competencies in East Asian Religions.
Candidates should a) have experience in teaching, b) be skilled at relating both classical and contemporary materials to their various historical and cultural settings, and c) situate their work within the broader theoretical and methodological concerns of the field of religious studies. The expected teaching load for this position is five courses distributed over a three-term academic year, ideally including an introductory course in Religious Studies, as well as introductory and mid-level courses in Asian Religions with emphasis on East Asia that explore the relation between religions and their intersections with critical issues such as gender, racism, and colonialism.
