Position Overview
We are looking for an energetic individual who can work closely with our undergraduate students both inside and outside the classroom, and who will support our energetic community of Japanese learners and speakers on campus. The successful candidate will help students at all levels develop language proficiency and gain an understanding of Japanese culture and society.

The position works 17.5 hours/week during the academic term. There are three 10-week academic terms during the year from mid-September 2022 through mid-June, 2023

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Japanese Language Teaching Assistant includes both classroom and extracurricular activities, which may include, but not limited to:

● Preparation time (lesson planning, event planning, etc.)
● Teaching or assisting in the classroom
● Grading assignments
● Attending weekly lunch tables in the LDC cafeteria
● Taking part in and/or leading conversation groups
● Creating and leading evening and possible weekend cultural events (e.g., Tea Time, Movie night, Dinners)
● Holding office hours
● Attending department meetings and training sessions

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in all modalities of Japanese (reading, writing, listening and speaking)

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is preferred. We will also consider some non-BA applicants.
Fluency in the English language is required.
Prior experience is not absolutely required although language teaching experience is a plus.
