Position Overview:

The Assistant or Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions & Coordinator of International Recruitment will partner with the senior leadership team to develop a comprehensive, strategic, and forward-thinking international recruitment plan to enroll a diverse group of bright, highly engaged, creative, and intellectual undergraduate students from around the world.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Has primary responsibility for the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of international students. The person in this position will:
    • Have a strong working knowledge of various international school systems, curricula, and evaluation formats.
    • Oversee the awarding of all special international scholarships and consideration of all special funding sources for international students, in conjunction with the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of International Student Life.
    • Ensure sufficient virtual and in-person international recruitment coverage for the division, in conjunction with the Director and other relevant territory managers.
    • Sustain and grow relations with critical international professional organizations and partnerships, such as CIS, International ACAC, HALI Access Network, and many others.
    • Monitor and measure recruitment and yield initiatives, and develop efficacy practices for international recruitment and yield efforts.
  • Serves as the admissions liaison to relevant campus committees and offices, such as the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
  • Participates in all aspects of the general admission cycle, including:
    • Manage and develop a recruitment territory, working in consultation with the Director and others to design and execute targeted recruitment travel.
    • Reading of first-year and transfer applications; with the intent to recommend students for admission.
    • Leading information sessions, to provide a refined overview of the liberal arts experience at Carleton.
    • Conducting on- and off-campus individual interviews, to assess a student’s interest in and fit for admission.
    • Advising prospective students on admission and financial aid policies and practices in written and verbal communication.
    • Reporting and monitoring.
  • Works to create and encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive environment in admissions that actively supports prospective students and their families to appreciate Carleton’s academic and cultural life and deep tradition in the liberal arts.
  • Represents the College to external agencies and groups, including attending regional, national, and international conferences and meetings to maintain the College’s visibility.
  • Coordinates special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
  • Reports to the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Admissions. In consultation with the senior leadership team, devise strategies for effective international student recruitment. Will have oversight over international recruitment budget.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Assistant Dean level - two to three years of progressively responsible experience in international admissions.
  • Senior Assistant Dean level - four to six years progressively responsible experience in international admissions
  • Strong understanding of the nature and aims of a selective, residential liberal arts college.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues with clarity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization, details, and deadlines.
  • A commitment to strengthening inclusion, diversity, and equity at the divisional and institutional level.
  • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated commitment to supporting a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and religion, among other factors.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • A willingness and ability to work extended and weekend hours during peak periods.
  • Leadership skills: Highly collaborative, dynamic, optimistic, empathetic, patient, and fun.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Slate CRM.
  • Comfort reading, writing, and speaking in language other than English.
